Grammy award winning rapper and songwriter Megan Thee Stallion revealed that her previously announced anime series will be streaming on Amazon Prime. The announcement came during her Dream Con “POWER AND CREATIVITY: Building Brand That Moves Culture with Megan Thee Stallion.” Megan additionally revealed that Carl Jones, Executive Producer, Head Writer and Director of Black Dynamite: The Animated Series and Co-Executive Producer of Adult Swim’s The Boondocks, helped with the creation of the anime series.
“I wanted to give ya’ll the exclusive. Ya’ll already knew this, but, I’m about to come out with my own anime. Yes, it’s gonna be on Amazon Prime [ . . . ] you ain’t never seen an anime like this anime in your life” the rapper announced to an immediate roar from the audience. Megan did not provide any additional details about the anime, such as studios involved, a title, a genre, or the length of the series. It is possible that the series is not an anime in the strict sense but is instead anime-inspired, as certain aspects of series like The Boondocks are.
The original announcement for the anime came via the social audio platform Stationhead in October of 2024. At the time, the rapper noted that she was “still working on it” and that “the anime is definitely on its way.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s lasted just about half an hour and featured a conversation about her music origins, the many businesses she’s started and invested in (including a new Popeye’s location in Miami, Florida), and her general appreciation for the nerd culture on display at Dream Con. She’s frequently proved herself a massive anime fan, attending the cosplaying BLEACH‘s Yoruichi, one of the many characters she’s dressed as over the years. She also frequently references anime in her music, even sampling an original line from Yuji Itadori’s English voice actor Adam McArthur in her song “Otaku Hot Girl.” As part of the , Megan invited cosplayers on stage and picked her favorites, with one of the picks being an attendees rendition of Dragon Ball Super‘s Broly.
