Crunchyroll and Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie will release globally sometime in August in both subbed and dubbed. The movie will be distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures. 5t3c1k
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the second film to be released for the Dragon Ball: Super series and will be the 21st overall in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. The original creator of the series, Akira Toriyama, is in charge of the screenplay and character designs. Toriyama previously mentioned that he was working on the script for the film while he was still working on Dragon Ball: Super Broly, which was released in 2018.
This will be Tetsuro Kodama’s third film as a director. Chikashi Kubota (The Girl Who Lept Through Time) will be the animation director while Naoki Satou (Sword of the Stranger, Assassination Classroom) will be handling the movie’s soundtrack.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was originally set to release in April of this year. However, due to the recent cyber attack on Toei Animation, the film was postponed, including many of the animation studio’s ongoing series such as One Piece and Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. The film will now release in theaters in Japan on June 11 before its global release in August.
The movie originally received much criticism for its use of CGI after its first trailer was released. But with Gohan and Piccolo looking to be the primary focus of the film, with a possible appearance from Broly, Dragon Ball fans have much to be excited for, especially since one of the latest key visuals included teenage Goten and Trunks in their fusion pose.
